Method 1:

1) Open your web browser and go to www.rockbox.org.
2) Click the link titled "Current Build".
3) Open the link for your iPod (there will be a picture and text).
4) Download the file when it is asked of you. The file extension should be .zip (ie. rockbox.zip).
5) Extract the contents of the file to your deskop.
6) Connect your iPod to your computer.
7) Once your iPod has been recognized go to "My Computer".
8) Find your iPod on the list of devices and open it.
9) Drag the .rockbox folder from your desktop and place it in your iPod root folder.
10) Open your web browser and go to www.rockbox.org.
11) Click on the link to the manual.
12) Find your iPod and click the "online" link underneath it.
13) Click on the link titled "Installation" in the table of contents.
14)Find the subtitle called "installing boot loader". It is about halfway down the page under Section 2.3.2 the heading saying "Bootloader installation from windows". Click on the first link under this heading and save the file.
     14a) For a Mac go to the heading saying "Bootloader installation from Mac      OSX"
15) Click run
16) Once the black window pops up wait for it to load then type in "i" (no quotes) and then press enter.
17) Once the installation is complete close the black window.
18) Congratulations, you have successfully installed Rockbox on your iPod Video.

Note: These instructions are for Windows the files used are not compatible with Mac OS X. To install using a Mac you must use the official Mac installer from the official iPodLinux website.

1) You now need to remove Rockbox, but DO NOT DELETE the .rockbox folder. Go to www.rockbox.org.
2) Click on the link to the manual.
3) Find your iPod and click the "online" link underneath it.
4) Click on the link titled "Installation" in the table of contents.
5) Find the subtitle called "installing boot loader". It is about halfway down the page under Section 2.3.2 the heading saying "Bootloader installation from windows". Click on the first link under this heading and save the file.
6) Click run
7) When the black box appears and loads type "u" (no quotes) then press enter.
8) Close the black window.
9) Now go to 5gipl.zip.
10) Download the file and save it to the Desktop.
11) Extract the files to the Desktop.
12) Start the program you just extracted.
13) Ensure that your iPod is plugged in.
14) Run the program.
15) Go to your iPod root folder and go into the .rockbox folder
16) Find the file rockbox.ipod, copy it and paste it in the iPod root folder.
17) You have just successfully triple booted Rockbox, Linux, and Apple OS on your iPod.
       Note: If the 5g installer does not work try using the 5.5g installer from 5.5gipl.zip and repeat steps 10 - 14

Note: This is a method for a quick installation (between 20 seconds and 5 minutes). This method not available on a Mac.

1) Open your web browser and go to rbinst.zip.
2) Download the file and save it to your Desktop.
3) Extract the files onto your Desktop.
4) Plug in your iPod, and then run the installer you just extracted.
5) Congratulations you have now installed Rockbox and iPod Linux on your iPod.

       NOTE: If you have firmware version 1.2.2 or above you will not be able to install iPod Linux only rockbox and instead of having an option to choose rockbox , iPod Linux, or Apple OS your iPod will automatically go into Rockbox when started (not if it was shutdown in Apple OS) and to go to Apple OS you must put the hold switch on when the apple sign appears.

Since iPod Linux does not have an un-installer the best way to take iPod Linux and Rockbox off your iPod if they are both installed is to simply restore your iPod. If you only installed Rockbox, follow steps 1-8 in the installing iPod Linux installation section.

         Uninstalling Rockbox

1) Go to www.rockbox.org.
2) Click on the link to the manual.
3) Find your iPod and click the "online" link underneath it.
4) Click on the link titled "Installation" in the table of contents.
5)Find the subtitle called "installing boot loader". It is about halfway down the page under Section 2.3.2 the heading saying " Bootloader installation from windows". Click on the first link under this heading and save the file.
6) Click run
7) When the black box appears and loads type "u" (no quotes) then press enter.
8) Close the black window.
9)Now go to your iPod root folder and delete the .rockbox folder.
