Jailbreak Your iPhone on a PC

This is a guide that will teach you how to jailbreak your 2nd Generation iPhone (iPhone 3G) on a PC. Once you have jailbroken your iPhone you will have the applications called installer that lets you install other applications onto it. Although before you can jailbreak your iPhone you need to find out what firmware version you have.

       NOTE: Do not use these instructions if you have a 1st generation iPhone if you would like to jailbreak your 1st generation iPhone follow this guide.

To find the firmware version of your iPhone:

       1) Turn on your iPhone and click on the application called settings.
       2) Go to the section called general. It should be the third from the top.
       3) Now go to the section called about. It should be the first on the list.
       4) Scroll down untill you find where it says firmware version.

Congratulations now that you have found out the firmware version expand the section of this guide that applys to you and your iPhone.

Please note that Apple requires you to buy certain firmware updates, only follow guides for these firmwares after you have legally purchased the update from Apple.






Firmware 3.0

1) Create a folder on your desktop called Jailbreak

2) Download RedSn0wfrom here and place it in the Jailbreak folder. Likewise, download the latest 3.0 firmware (3GS) from here and place it in the same folder.

3) Extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Jailbreak folder.

4)Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

5) Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button.

6) Navigate to the Jailbreak folder on your desktop and select the .ipsw file. Click the open button to continue.

7) Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware you may launch redsnw0w.exe from the Jailbreak folder on your desktop.

8) Once RedSn0w opens click the browse button

9) Select the firmware ipsw we placed in the Jailbreak folder on our desktop then click open

10) Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.

11) Make sure Cydia is selected and click the Next button.

12) Plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button

13) RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

14) Your iPhone will now reboot

15) RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.

16)Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPhone finishes reboot (5 minutes or so). It will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

Firmware 3.0.1 & 3.0.2

Please refer to the firmware instructions, they both use the same method. This includes using the 3.0 firmware for this jailbreak.


Firmware 3.1

Only follow these instructions if your iPhone 3GS has been previously jailbroken on firmwares 3.0 or 3.0.1 & 3.0.2. Unfortunatly the iPhone 3GS out of the box with 3.1 firmware cannot be jailbroken.
