Jailbreak Your iPhone on a PC

This is a guide that will teach you how to jailbreak your 1st Generation iPhone on a PC. Once you have jailbroken your iPhone you will have the applications called installer that lets you install other applications onto it. Although before you can jailbreak your iPod you need to find out what firmware version you have.

       NOTE: Do not use these instructions if you have a 2nd generation iPhone (iPhone 3G) if you would like to jailbreak your 2nd generation iPhone follow this guide.

To find the firmware version of your iPhone:

       1) Turn on your iPhone and click on the application called settings.
       2) Go to the section called general. It should be the third from the top.
       3) Now go to the section called about. It should be the first on the list.
       4) Scroll down untill you find where it says firmware version.

Congratulations now that you have found out the firmware version expand the section of this guide that applys to you and your iPhone.

Please note that Apple requires you to buy certain firmware updates, only follow guides for these firmwares after you have legally purchased the update from Apple.






Firmware 1.1.1

1) On your iPhone open the Safari applicaiton and go to jailbreakme.com
2) Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the button that says install AppSnapp
3) Once it loads it will automatically start downloading and then installing the installer application.
4) Once it finishes slide to unlock it and click on the application called installer and wait while it checks its sources, this may take a few minutes depending on how fast your internet connection is.

Firmware 1.1.2 - 1.1.4 Quick Method

      Note: If you have a previously jailbroken iPhone to make sure that to ensure the process works properly you should restore your iPhone. Unless the current version iTunes has is higher than the firmware version you have on your iPhone.

1) Plug in your iPhone and make sure that it is recognized by iTunes
2) Go here and download the latest version of Ziphone for windows.
3) Once you have downloaded the file run the .exe which will ask you to extract the files to the default folder or another folder of your choice.
4) The file called ZiPhoneGUI.exe should open automatically, if it doesn't then open the folder that it was extracted and run the file ZiPhoneGUI.exe. (It is recomended that you run the file as an administrator to make sure that it works properly.)
5) Click the button that says Jailbreak (or Jailbreak and Unlock if you need both functions completed) and just let the program work.

When it has finished working your iPhone will be jailbroken and you will see the application called installer. This will let you access and install the thousands of third-party applications available for your iPhone.

Firmware 2.0 - 2.0.2

1) Download Winpwn from here, and make sure you have iTunes 7.7 or newer which can be downloaded from here.
2) Install winpwn by following the on screen instructions.
        NOTE: Winpwn uses dotnet framework so if it crashes when you load it, make sure you have the latest dotnet framework installed.
3)Open the Winpwn program.
4) Click the custom button.
5) Click the phone device that says iPhone.
6) Select your logos by clicking the left or right device to select between boot logo (left) or restore logo (right). By default it is set to find a logo on your local disk. Click the yellow browse package button to change it to search online.
7) Now you will be asked if you need help getting into DFU mode press the green thumbs up (yes) unless you already know how.

7a) Turn off your phone. Hold power, slide to power off, and wait. Once that is done press the green thumbs up sign on the dialog box that just just popped up.
7b) Now that it's off, you will follow the steps to get into DFU mode. Press the buttons as the pictures tell you. If you do it right, it will be working even though you have no display on your phone!

Now wait while your device is being jailbroken. The app will upload to your device a ram disk and then execute it. The app will finish a few minutes before the device is done. So just wait patiently for your device to reboot.

Firmware 2.1

Before you begin make sure that you have already updated your iPhone to firmware 2.1 and you have the latest version of itunes which can be downloaded from here.
       NOTE: Note this will not work unless you update through iTunes, and use iTunes to download the firmware file.

1) Download the Quickpwn application from here, and extract it to your desktop.
2) Now download the fimware 2.1 file from here.
3) Plug in your iPhone.
4) Wait for your iPhone to finish syncing and then close iTunes when completly.
5)Run the QuickPwn.exe file which you extracted earlier.
6) Follow the on screen instructions
7) Once QuickPwn has verified the firmware press next and check off the box saying Add Cydia.
       NOTE: Do not select Replace boot logos, however you may select Add Installer if you wish although it is slightly buggy in firmware 2.1, it is recommended not to.
9) Once you press next follow the on screen instructions and once the process is completed you now have a newly jailbroken iPod touch with firmware 2.1

Firmware 2.2

      Note: Before beginning make sure you have updated to iTunes 8.0.2.

1)Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop, then download these files and place them within the Pwnage folder.


When done downloading extract the QuickPwn22.zip file to the Pwnage folder.

2)Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone. Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 2.2 firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.

3)Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the 2.2 firmware you may launch QuickPwn.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

4)Make sure you iPhone is connected to the computer and click the blue arrow to continue.

5)Click the Browse button to locate your iPhone firmware.

6)Select the 2.2 firmware ipsw from the Pwnage folder on your desktop then click the Open button.

7)QuickPwn will check to make sure the ipsw is valid. Click the blue arrow button to continue.

8)You can now select whether to Add Cydia, Add Installer, Replace Boot Logos, and Unlock Phone. Select the ones you would like to perform then click the clue arrow button.

9)You will now be asked to select your bootloader files. Click the Browse button and select the 3.9 bootloader from the Pwnage folder on your desktop. Likewise do the same thing for the 4.6 bootloader file. Then click the blue arrow button to continue.

10)QuickPwn will now ask you to confirm your iPhone is connected via USB before continuing. Click the blue arrow button to proceed.

11)QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.Watch the prompts carefully and follow along.

12)Once QuickPwn detects your iPhone in DFU mode it will begin the jailbreak process.

13)Once jailbreaking is complete QuickPwn will inform you that it was successfull. Your iPhone will then proceed to run BootNeuter. This process will take about 5 minutes. Please be patient. Your iPhone will reboot when it has completed the process successfully!

Firmware 3.0

These are instructions on how to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 2G on the 3.0 iPhone firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. Before beginning make sure you have updated to iTunes 8.2.

1) Create a folder called Pwnage on your desktop.

2) Download the following files and place them in the Pwnage folder you just created:
RedSn0w
BL 3.9
BL 4.6
3.0.0 Firmware(2G)

3) Extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder.

4) Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

5) Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

6) Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the firmware ipsw. Click the open button to continue.

7) Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware you may launch redsnw0w.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

8) Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button

9) Select the firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click open

10) Once the firmware has been verified click the next button to continue.

11) Make sure Cydia and Unlock is selected and click the Next button.

12) We will know need to set the location of our bootloader files.

13) Click Browse and select the 3.9 bootloader file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

14) Click Browse and select the 4.6 bootloader file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

15) Click the Next button to continue.

16) Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button

17)RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

18) Your iPhone will now reboot

19) RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.

20) Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPhone finishes reboot (5 minutes or so). It will run BootNeuter then be unlocked and jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

Firmware 3.0.1 & 3.0.2

Please refer to the firmware instructions, they both use the same method. This includes using the 3.0 firmware for this jailbreak.

Firmware 3.1

1) Create a folder on your desktop called Jailbreak

2) Download one of these two firmwares (choose properly)

3) Launch iTunes 9.1 and connect your iPhone 2G to your computer

4) The iPhone now needs to be placed in DFU mode:

4a) Turn the iPhone off

4b) Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.

4c)After exactly 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding the Home button until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, press ok. The iPhone will now show a black screen.

4d) Hold the shift key and then hit the restore button. In the dialog box that pops up, browse the downloaded custom firmware file.

5) Your iPhone will take a few minutes to finish restoring when it has completed your iphone will have Cydia on the springboard.

If your iPhone does not need to be activated disregard the following steps.

6) Turn WiFi ‘On’ on your iPhone 3G and connect to a Wireless Access point (WiFi). Also disable 3G on your iPhone.

7) Launch Cydia on your iPhone 3G and download the necessary upgrades if prompted and hit ‘Restart Springboard’ when done.

8) Tap on ‘Manage’ at the bottom and choose ‘Sources’. Now hit the Edit button at the top right corner and now hit the Add button.

9) Enter repo666.ultrasn0w.com when prompted with ‘Enter Cydia/APT URL’ dialog and hit then ‘Add Source’ button.

10) Once it refreshes, return to Cydia and hit the ‘Done’ button and tap the top most entry shown.

11) Now tap Ultrasn0w -> choose the install button and Confirm. Now return to the main menu in Cydia.

12) Restart your iPhone and you should see your carrier signal!
